Definition
There are different types of brain tumours: primary brain tumour, and secondary brain tumour. Primary brain tumours originate from the brain like gliomas while secondary brain tumours come from cancers of other parts of the body.
Types of brain tumours include gliomas, meningiomas, chondrosarcomas, vestibular schwanomas, epidermoid cysts, glomus jugulare tumours.

When are tumours suspected?
Brain tumours may present with:
- new seizures or fits
- worsening neurological symptoms such as limb weakness, speech problems or visual disturbance
- symptoms from raised intracranial pressure such as severe headache
- an incidental finding on a brain scan done for another reason.
Brain tumours are managed by a multi-disciplinary team comprising neurosurgeons, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists and nurse specialists.
